I’m grateful to write my ninth newsletter while sitting on our deck, soaking up this warm spring weather (before we get another inch of rain).
Every time I craft a post, I can’t help but feel blessed to know each of you have agreed to yet another email in your inbox.

Manuscript Updates.
Building my platform on social media has been primarily geared toward the writing community in general, but last week I joined a Pitch Event where I shared about the projects I’ve been working on. This event allows writers to promote their books using certain hashtags in hopes a literary agent invites us to query them (i.e. send them an email with a brief sumamry of our work for representation).
There were over 50K pitches by noon, and I decided to throw mine in and hope for the best. But I’ll be honest, I didn’t think this event would work.
Spoiler: I was wrong.
By the end of the day, four agents asked to see my work. Thirty minutes later, I got my first full request.
There are still plenty of steps ahead. I’ve simply gone from staring at the looming stairwell to hauling myself up to the first landing. But, I’m celebrating these “firsts” as part of the journey.
In the coming weeks, I’m expecting to hear back from a few more agents. But in the meantime, I’m working on a new project (an academic fantasy with a mystery spin) which has been fun to dive into.
My goal is to have the first draft done by summer which means I’ll be writing about 5-10K a week! This is a set up from what I’m used to accomplishing, but with the agent interest in this project, I’m trying to set a good pace.
A Book I’m Loving.
For any science fiction fans, The Will of the Many by James Islington is phenomenal. Don’t let the size of the book deter you, it’s impossible to put down.
A young fugitive finds himself under the noses of the very people he’s been trying to avoid, and the secrets he uncovers at their elite academy have me staying up far to late to read one more page.
